Late Antiquity Lecture: Janet Huskinson
We are pleased to invite everyone to a lecture by Dr. Janet Huskinson (Department of Classical Studies, Open University, UK) on “Strigillated Sarcophagi and their Social Lives”.
Wednesday 9 April 3 pm
Building 1414, Auditorium 407
Roman strigillated sarcophagi were very popular in Rome from the mid second to the early fifth century. They are characterised by their curved fluting and survive in considerable number. They are therefore a useful source for social and cultural developments in the life of the city. In this presentation focus will be put on aspects of their production, as well as on issues to do with viewing and identity. Finally, some concluding marks will be made about their reuse and reception in later societies.
